Q. In what situations can we require our employees to have a drug and/or alcohol test?
A. That depends on the Company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy and Company Employment Contract. It’s important to have both documents up to date.

Q. What drugs do the tests administered by Drug Testing Solutions test for?
A. Class A, B and C drugs, i.e., marijuana and cannabis, benzodiazepine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, opiates and synthetic cannabis. The tests also pick up some controlled and legal prescription drugs, however these drugs are not considered a risk to the work environment if used in accordance with medical advice.

Q. How much notice do we have to give a staff member that we will require a drug test from them?
A. That depends on the type of test to be performed. We can discuss this with you and advise accordingly.

Q. What does your employee need to bring for their drug test?
A. Any form of photo ID with their date of birth, ie:
- Driver’s License
- 18+ card
- Passport
- Site Safe Card

Q. Should our employees drink a lot of fluid before their drug test?
A. No, too much fluid might dilute the sample and invalidate the test.

Q. Can you tell if someone tries to cheat in their drug test?
A. Yes, there are a number of ways cheating can be detected in all the tests.

Q. How long does it take to do a drug test?
A. 10 to 15 minutes.

Q. When will we know the results of our employee’s drug test?
A. Immediately upon completion of the test.

Q. How accurate are the results?
A. We conduct our tests under strict criteria and the results are accurate. The urine collection cups we use are of a high quality and the ‘cup accuracy’ is verified by an accredited laboratory. If we have any doubt about the quality of the sample at the time of testing, we will repeat the test.

Q. What happens if the drug or alcohol test result is a fail?
A. In the case of drugs, the sample is sent to an accredited laboratory for confirmation testing to confirm the reading. With alcohol, if an employee fails the first test, we will perform a second test 15 minutes later. The result of a confirmed failed test will dictate any further course of action.

Q. In the case of a failed test being sent to the laboratory, how long will it take to get the results?
A. It takes two to three days, depending on the workload of the laboratory.

Q. Who will have access to the results?
A. Only you (the employer) and your employee, and anyone else that the employee wishes to authorise.

Q. How often can a staff member be tested?
A. As often as the Company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy and Company Employment Contract allows.
